6 Mobile App development trends for 2020 & beyond
Mobile applications have become like our significant other; we cannot live without it anymore. Our lifestyle has been evolved over the years so much with the use of mobile applications for several tasks like paying the power bill; making a to-do list or searching for a new car; we use handy applications for hassle-free processing. According to Google, about 80% of mobile users prefer to buy from a company having a mobile application for better user experience. No wonder, there are almost 2.6 million Android apps on the Play Store and about 2 million or more in the App Store.
Like other digital marketing tactics, mobile app development techniques also keep changing as new technology begins to show its magic. So, let us find out what the top 6 Mobile app development trends for 2020 and beyond.
Beacon Technology
This technology uses mobile’s GPS information to send personalised messages to the mobile user when that person enters a particular location. For example, imagine you are looking for your pre-booked seat in a crowded auditorium hall; a beacon can alert you when you are near your seat. Beacon technology uses Bluetooth signal to sense the data to another Bluetooth device which may be a smartphone. Companies can use this amazing feature to send promotional messages or offers to people who are visiting nearby their stores. Such proximity application is a great choice to interact with the customers and keep them engaged. Hotels, Hospitals, and Museums are rapidly embracing the beacon technology for enhancing the customer experience.
Augmented Reality
How often have you ended up buying a piece of furniture which is too big for your room? If ever you had the chance to visualise how the furniture will actually look in your house it will be a great fix. Augmented Reality is what makes such things happen. Unlike Virtual Reality, AR gives an exceptional experience of the real world with real situations. AR when incorporated perfectly can transform the customer experience for several industries like beauty, automobiles, and other utilities. Though AR is prevalent in the gaming industry for a long time now. The huge success of virtual games like Pokemon Go made AR an addictive feature everyone wants to own. The future of mobile app development will see more of AR not just for games but for real purposes like live streaming of football matches, live lectures, live concerts, and a lot more. With work from home and learn from home both becoming the need of the hour; companies must explore AR for in-depth learning.
5G technology
Mobile Applications in the coming years will be using the next standard after 4G/LTE, which is 5G – the 5th generation of mobile connectivity. Companies worldwide are preparing to embrace 5G at any cost as it will increase the transfer speed for mobile applications. By using 5G, mobile developers believe the transfer speed will increase up to 100GB/s which is powerful enough to transform the way people use mobile applications in the future. By incorporating 5G the battery life of smart devices will last 10 times longer; high-quality communication can be set up even in remote locations; Website loading time reduces to 1 millisecond or even less; app load time reduces to 1 or 3 seconds; it will also indicate precise geolocation details; high connection density and high bandwidth; and low latency period. The next-generation apps will be super-powered apps with 5G’s strength and speed.
Blockchain Technology
Blockchain technology uses token generation for authentication for securing payments or access to a network. It has been popular among developers for enhancing the safety and security of data. This technology is used in decentralised apps so that vital data is not centralised in one single server or location; which will give better control over data handling. Using Blockchain technology, you can safeguard your mobile applications from cyber-attack and fraud. Data once entered in a decentralised app, cannot be deleted or edited by an unauthorised person. Blockchain will see more light in the coming years of mobile application development.
Artificial Intelligence
The intelligence of a machine has always fascinated humans. Well, the fascination does not stop at face recognition and voice assistants; Artificial Intelligence will continue to make amazing outcomes in the future. Subsequent years will see apps writing codes to make other apps by itself with little help from the programmers. Chatbots are one of the examples prevailing today, which uses AI to interact with a customer online. Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri are the most popular AI-powered applications we can see today. There are some minute things that a human may not be able to recognise but a machine can definitely identity such traits. This possibility can be worked upon thoroughly to bring AI into most industries lacking manpower and infrastructure to speed-up production. AI can be utilised wisely to overcome human errors and negligence in processes where a mistake is not affordable.
Instant Apps
Just like we prefer to try and check a new piece of clothing before actually buying it; instant apps are similar to that. These are native apps working like websites and have accessible features in them.
Users can access the features of instant apps without downloading it on their devices. This can save storage space on the user’s mobile device and save download time too. Currently, only Android has Instant apps in its Play Store, which were first launched in 2016. You can find the “Try it now” button when you choose an instant app. Recently, Google launched Google Play instant for Android TV too. Instant Apps give users the freedom to try before installing an application; for this very reason, the first look of the app must be appealing enough to make the user download it after trial.
